Design Fees
There is no charge for the initial design consultation, which generally lasts about an hour. At this point, if we determine that a landscape design isn't required because there is no need to commit formal ideas to paper, we can offer you a free estimate for the work you desire. If a new landscape needs to be created or if we need to significantly add to your existing landscape, we can produce a design for you, for which there is a design fee.
Design fees cover the cost of having one of our designers conduct a thorough site analysis, and create a unique design for your space that meets your goals and budget, one that works for you over the long run. Design fees vary depending on the scope of the project and the size of the garden. Designs requiring hardscape elements (pools, decks, patios, walks, etc) are more complicated and time-consuming, and are therefore more expensive than planting plans. Once we've completed our consultation we'll draft a design contract that's appropriate for the scope of work requested. Depending on the time of year in which you engage us, it typically takes about one to two months for us to complete your design.
Our Process
At LDI, we take a thorough approach to our design process. Once we’ve met with you and you’ve signed a design contract with us, we’ll return to complete our site analysis, and to design your garden conceptually. Our designer then develops and draws your design, we edit and tweak your design, then we meet with you to review your design and pictures of plants we’ve proposed for your garden. After we’ve incorporated your input in your design, we'll provide pricing for the first phase of your garden installation or for installing your garden in its entirety.

We offer our plant installation clients guided nursery tours to preview the plants we’ve selected for their site. We hold home improvement licenses in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, and we are licensed pesticide applicators.
