Eco-Friendly
At LDI we share your concern for our environment, and for sustainable and conscientious living. To that end, here are some of the eco-friendly practices we undertake and offer:
- Rather than dumping our debris in landfills, we take excavated concrete and soil to recycling centers, and we compost all organic debris and re-introduce them in future gardens as soil amendments. All bed preparation is done with eco-friendly soils that are a mix of recycled soils, composted leaves and organic material.
- Using pervious paving products, installing underground downspout drains and dry wells, and designing and installing rain gardens are just a few of the storm water management options that we offer to slow water flow, capture and re-use rain water, and reduce flooding, erosion and pollution.
- We encourage the use of native plants that are tough and better suited to the metro area’s temperate zone, and that support significantly larger populations of beneficial insects. We also offer xeriscaping which features the use of native and drought-tolerant plants, minimized or eliminated lawns, and water conservation techniques.
- Our irrigation systems are installed with materials and fixtures that minimize wasted water (drip lines, rain sensors, user-friendly control boxes), and our low voltage lighting systems produce beautifully lit gardens with a limited number of fixtures that use longer lasting bulbs and less energy than would be expended with line voltage systems.
- We encourage you to take your sustainable practices from your garden to your table by offering vegetable and herb garden soil preparation and planting for homeowners and communities.
